Interference of Coherent Light

Interference of Coherent Light

Young pointed a source of light into a barrier with a single slit to make the light coherent. The coherent and monochromatic light arrived at a new barrier with two slits as shown in the image to the right. Once the light passes the two slits, the two new light waves interfere.

The two new light waves form bands, these bands are called interference fringes

This series shows a bright central fringe with a series of dark and bright fringes on either side.
